Game Review

Tin Toy Adventure in the House of Fun is a 2D platformer developed by Adrian Cumming and published by Mutation for the Amiga in 1996.

Cumming, a former Core Design artist, and developer (known for CyberPunks, among other things), was responsible for the graphics, sound, and coding of the game.

The adventure begins in the house of fun. It's a place that normally would honor its name but was attacked by an evil clown who cast a spell to conquer both the place and its inhabitants. The only one who can stop it is a Tin Toy, who must go through several side-scrolling levels to defeat it.

The high point of the game is in its graphics. The AGA chipset was used perfectly. Pastel colors coexist with more intense ones and occupy every corner of the background. This kind of mixture, far from overwhelming the player, gives the title identity and makes the playthrough memorable in its own way. On the other hand, without having the leading role, the music perfectly accompanies the aesthetics of the levels and the almost robotic movements of the characters.

The gameplay is typical of almost all the releases of the genre. Bosses at the end of each section, a variety of weapons and powers to choose from, and the typical traps on the ground that complicate the journey. The progressive difficulty is well balanced, which makes this platformer ideal for both children and for those who just want to have fun and - why not - relax.

The title received mostly positive reviews and even had an excellent sales performance, which the developer admitted that he felt was exceptionally meritorious due to the bad time the Amiga was having.

Tin Toy Adventure in the House of Fun wasn't meant to shine and be remembered for generations. But it's a very entertaining title that you can use to distract yourself or even open the doors of video games to a non-gamer (let's be honest, though it's beautiful, you can't make someone who never grabbed a joystick play Cuphead). So don't waste any more time, grab something to drink, sit in the most comfortable position, and enter this fun world and its endless colors.
