Best multiplayer games on GamesNostalgia

Multiplayer games are titles where two or more players can join to compete or, in some cases, to collaborate.

The first multiplayer games were played on the same computer, with two joysticks attached, or even four, when the hardware supported it.

Two milestones of video game history, such as Dyna Blaster and M.U.L.E., are two great examples. Some turn-based games implemented an "hotseat" mode, where players could alternate on the same computer.

With the broader use of LAN and the Internet, we moved from playing local multiplayer games on the same screen to playing online multiplayer games. Warcraft is not the first RTS to introduce multiplayer. But with new features like wild monsters and a memorable world of Azeroth, it became a classic. On the other side of the game genre, there is Quake. It’s supposedly the first competitive multiplayer FPS game. It introduced terms many modern esports players are familiar with, like bunny hopping and strafing.

The world of multiplayer games only grew, and many games of different genres introduced multiplayer game modes, including strategies like Command & Conquer and Diablo, which started as a single-player RPG and then eventually transformed into an online-only game.

In this category, we list only generic multiplayer games for three or more players; for two-players games, check the tag 2 players.
