Game Review

Wing Commander is a space combat simulator designed by Chris Roberts and first released for the PC DOS in 1990. It was later ported to the Amiga, CD32, Sega CD and the SNES. It is the first game in the Wing Commander series by ORIGIN Systems.

Wing Commander is the story of a pilot aboard the TCS Tiger's Claw. It's a sci-fi game set in outer space during an intergalactic war. You are a member of the Confederation fleet, fighting your sworn enemy, the Kilrathi. You can fly four different types of ships, each of which is very different. The game is interesting in that you do not have to win every mission. Losing certain missions will open up different options to you.

This game won Computer Gaming World's Best overall Game of the Year Award in 1991 for a very good reason. It's a classic, a game every fan of simulation games should play at least once. The graphics stand the test of time. This game mixes good music, a good storyline, and amazing space flight simulation together into a winning formula.
