Game Review

Gloom is famous for being the first Doom clone to be released for the Amiga. It was developed by Black Magic and released by Guildhall in 1995 for Amiga with AGA chipset.

Despite the look and feel, the game is more a shoot'em up than a full 1st person shooter. Gloom didn't reach the complexity of the game it was trying to copy. Despite this, the developers could create a fun and memorable game, fast enough on an A1200 that you can also play in co-op with a friend. Not exactly Doom, but something enjoyable on the Amiga. The SFX are taken from the movie Alien and they are the base of a fun mini-game. The action, the atmosphere, the music all contribute to a nice experience.

In January 2017, the source code of Gloom was released as a public domain.
