Game Review

Driller, also known as Space Station Oblivion, is a 3D strategy/puzzler created by Incentive Software initially for ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC in 1987. In 1988 the Atari ST, Amiga, and DOS versions were released.

It was the first game to use the 3D engine Freescape, later used in other titles such as Dark Side. The engine was quite innovative: not only it allowed free movements around a 3D environment, rendered with filled polygons, but it also supported looking up and down, as well as rotating left and right.

In the game designed by Ian Andrew, you have to solve a lot of puzzles, maneuvering the excavation probe and activating levers and mechanisms, or destroying the environment to discover hidden rooms. It's not simple to understand what to do; many users have criticized the difficulty level. Despite this, the game received highly positive reviews, it ranked #4 in the Best Games of All Time for Amstrad CPC and received ratings up to 97% for the ZX Spectrum and C64 versions.
