Roadwar Europa is a futuristic turn-based strategy game designed by Jeff Johnson and initially developed for the Apple II and Commodore 64 in 1986, published by Strategic Simulations Inc. The game was then ported to Amiga and Atari ST by Westwood Associates and released in 1987.
The game was the sequel to Roadwar 2000, a post-apocalyptic strategy game inspired by the film Mad Max. As in the predecessor, you have to assemble an army of warriors and vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. You will have to fight other gangs, mutants, and terrorists. Finding food, medicines, weapons, and supplies will be fundamental. As you can imagine, Roadwar Europe is set in the old continent, and your task is to locate and disarm five nuclear bombs hidden by the terrorists.
The Roadwar series was a huge success, and the Amiga/Atari ST versions are the best, with enhanced graphics and digitized sounds. It's just a pity that the developers decided to use the default Amiga font, which looks a bit "cheap". But this was the standard in 1987. Excluding this small detail, it's a game you cannot miss.
