Game Review

Star Goose! (also know as Stargoose Warrior) is a sci-fi arcade shooter created by Logotron for the Atari ST, Amiga, and MS-DOS and released in 1988.

Designed by two brilliant game creators of the Liverpool gaming scene, Steven Cain and GP Everett, this title alternates top-down shoot-em-up levels with behind-view sections, both in pseudo-3d. In the top-down levels, the terrain - a sort of 3D polygons graphics surface similar to Populous - does not limit its purpose to the visuals. It simulates a real terrain with different heights, so it's part of the gameplay; if you are behind a hill, you cannot shoot enemies, and you are protected by their fire. This is the main reason why the game is a bit different from the typical shooter.

While in the behind view, you rotate your ship around a circle, trying to shoot enemies in the middle (as in the popular arcade Gyruss). It's just a pity that graphics and sound were created for the Atari ST and not improved for the Amiga version - which is a common problem for many Amiga games. But we are talking about 1988, and for that year, the quality was clearly above the average.

If you are a fan of the original game or fancy something different from the typical shoot-em-up, this is a good choice.
