Game Review

Virus 2000 (a.k.a. V2000) is the remake/sequel to the 1987 David Braben game, Zarch (later Virus), and was developed by Frontier Developments and published by Grolier Interactive in 1998 for PlayStation and Windows.

If you don't remember, David Braben is the author of Elite and Frontier: Elite II.

Like its predecessor, in Virus 2000, you are a fighter pilot on a mission to stop aliens from spreading a virus.

Your goal is to fly around and destroy the virus spreading aliens while rescuing civilians who can build you weapons. There are lots of shooting and hidden tidbits to discover in each world. You can unlock new ships by earning trophies for saving worlds.

Reviews for the game were mostly positive when it was released. However, the gameplay was gigged for being very difficult and requiring serious precision. With touchy controls, this is a game that makes you work for the skills to beat it. Those who don’t mind a challenge will be in their element with this one.
