README

Short : HD-Installer for Lemmings Type : game/patch Author : Mr.Larmer & Psygore (psygore@whdload.de) THIS PACKAGE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO USE, RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PACKAGE IS ASSUMED BY YOU AND IF THE PACKAGE SHOULD PROVE TO BE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR OTHER REMEDIATION. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, CAN THE AUTHOR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED IN ANY USUAL, SPECIAL, OR ACCIDENTAL WAY, ALSO IF THE OWNER OR A THIRD PARTY HAS BEEN POINTED AT SUCH POSSIBILITIES OF DAMAGE. This install applies to "Lemmings" © 1990 Psygnosis. It supports 1, 2 disks and CDTV versions. This install requires WHDLoad and RawDIC to be in the path. Both can be found in the WHDLoad package. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed program requires 0.5 MB ChipMem. It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page. If that doesn't help try some Tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, NOVBRMOVE, NOMMU, PAL or NTSC. If that also fails, please inform the author via the Bug-Report-Form which can be accessed on the WHDLoad WWW-Page. For the full WHDLoad package, other installs and updates refer to: http://www.whdload.de/ or aminet:dev/misc/whdload#? and aminet:game/patch/ Version 1.0 (07.03.01) done by Mr.Larmer: - RNC protection removed - checksum code patched - check NTSC mode removed Version 1.1 (22.03.01) done by Mr.Larmer: - NTSC version supported (1 disk - quit from RawDic when he ask about disk 2) Version 1.2 (30.07.03) by Psygore: - Slave optimized - Another version with NTSC check supported - Decruncher (ByteKiller) relocated in fast memory (quit with a message error if checksum is wrong) - Nice icons (creadted by Frank) and Exoticon included - New install script Version 1.3 (06.09.03) by Psygore: - Stack moved in fast memory - Checksum code fixed for decruncher relocating (an access fault occurs when you use access code) - Manual included Version 1.4 (27.10.03) by Psygore: - Debug code removed (thanks Bored Seal) Version 1.5 (22.09.13) by Psygore: - Supports SPS #132, #270 (1 disk), #901, #1977, #2089, #2238 versions - Slave needs only 512 KB of ChipRAM (extramem is only used for file storage) - You can choose to install diskimages or real files - CUSTOM1, CUSTOM2 and CUSTOM3 added - QuitKey works on 68000 now - Level codes included - New install script - Box/CFou!/Dr.Zarkov and old icons added CDTV version 1.0 (30.07.03) by Psygore: - Stack moved in fast memory - Use fastmem and caches - OS functions patched - Blitwait inserted - CoverIcon included CDTV version 1.1 (27.10.03) by Psygore: - Slave code cleaned - Decruncher (ByteKiller) relocated in fast memory CDTV version 1.2 (22.09.13) by Psygore: - CUSTOM1, CUSTOM2 and CUSTOM3 added - Supports 2-player mode, set CUSTOM4=1 to enable it - Slave needs less memory requirements - QuitKey works on 68000 now Note: Set CUSTOM1=1 to skip intro (it will not load it) Set CUSTOM2=0 to 3 to select the difficulty rating (Fun,Tricky,Taxing,Mayhem) Set CUSTOM3=1 to 30 for level number It's recommanded to install the real files. It will load directly the file instead of one sector (1024 bytes) each time from the diskimage and reduce a lot the OS swap on low memory system. Btw you can unpack them (they are ByteKiller crunched, xfddecrunch from XFD package will do the job) and repack with Propack for a better crunch ratio. About the disk version: There are 6 SPS versions which are supported. The main difference between them, it's the one disk version (Commodore Promotion Pack). The intro is, of course missing, but the special levels too (Awesome, Beast I&II, Menace). They are replaced with existing gfx/music. For example, level 112 (FINLMDIQIW) is 'Don`t Make The Wrong Choice!' instead of 'A BeastII of a level'. The other versions are very similar, there is a region check for PAL/NTSC version and the first pictures are centered on screen. However, the 'Boot Club' disk (SPS #2238) has 2 different levels: - level 51 (Tricky 21: NHLFIBADFX) 'Through the graveyard' instead of 'All the 6's' - level 80 (Taxing 20: FINLMDHQGT) 'Something weighting on your mind?' instead of 'Walk to the web rope' About the CD version: It constains the same levels and data than the disk version. The programmer had to use the AmigaOS operating system for all the file I/O processing. That's problably why he wanted to support a quit option but removed the 2-player mode in the main menu. It's lucky that the 2-player code routine is still here and just a line of code needs to be patched to enable it. The 2-player gfx icon patch has been made from the 'icons' iff file (disk version). Thanks to Christian Sauer for the CDTV version and his CoverIcon. Mr.Larmer in 2001, Psysore in 2003, 2013.
