Game Review

Dungeon Master, developed by FLT Games initially in 1987 for the Atari ST, is a grid-based 3D action role-playing game. It is one of the best-selling Atari ST games of all time.

This game is a masterpiece, and it's considered the father of first-person real-time computer RPGs, introducing many features that would become standard in future RPGs. Titles like Eye of the Beholder would not exist without Dungeon Master, and the game heavily influenced the Ultima series.

The FTL title was ported to several other platforms, including Apple IIgs, DOS, FM Towns, PC-98, and SNES. The first Amiga version was released in 1988, but Psygnosis re-released it in 1992 with some small improvements. Many consider this the best version of Dungeon Master, but Atari ST fans might have a different opinion :)

I have played (and finished) Eye of the Beholder I and II on my Amiga, and later Eye of the Beholder III when I bought my first PC. Looks like I never played the game that invented the dungeon-crawler genre. I hope it's as good as they say. Do I need some tutorials/maps?

To save a game on Mac using the extended keyboard hold down the fn key and the command key and then press the F12 key. It will open a popup menu and it is self explanatory from there. To start where you left off when the game boots uptown the front entrance of the dungeon do not click any of the buttons. Use the fn key, the command key and then press the F12 key and you get the pop pop menu. From there choose land, et. etc.

@ElectricWheels, sorry about it. If you are talking about the Amiga version, you need to use the proper key to exit the game; otherwise, the saved file won't be saved on disk (this is how WHDLoad games work - as mentioned in the FAQs). If you use the DOS version, you should not have this problem.

Classic game I used to play on the Atari ST. Downloaded the Mac OS version but sadly it does not save any game data so lost over an hours gameplay
