Game Review

Another Lifeless Planet and Me With No Beer is a rare interactive fiction/text adventure game that was released in 1989 for DOS.

The game written by Dennis Drew takes place on a hostile alien planet where you have crashed your ship. The planet is a dangerous place, and you have to use your telepathic link with your clones to navigate through the alien structure, collect materials required to fix your alien ship and escape the planet.

The game is an intricate puzzle that requires a significant amount of mapping to complete successfully. The puzzles are challenging, and you can expect to lose a few clones while traveling through the alien ship. The telepathic link with the clones is shaky, making it difficult to control them, which adds to the difficulty of the game. The clones need to go into the alien security nest and come out with the materials required to allow the alien ship to blast off and go for help.

Mapping is essential to conquer this game. The alien ship corridors twist and turn, and you may find areas that teleport you to different locations without warning. Nearly everything you see has a purpose, and red herrings are minimal. The puzzles are logical, and you will not have to perform illogical or silly actions to complete the game.

The game is not easy to solve, and it may take you between 10 to 30 hours to complete the game. If you do complete the game, do not tell anyone how to do it. Any clues spoil the game for the next person playing. The fun comes from watching your friends go nuts playing it.

The graphics are minimal, there are only some ASCII art images. The lack of music and sound effects in the game also adds to the game's immersion, and you can hear the eerie silence of the alien environment.

Another Lifeless Planet and Me With No Beer is an intricate puzzle game that is both logical and challenging. The game was well-received and is a must-play for fans of interactive fiction/text adventure games.
