Game Review

The Chaos Engine is a 2-players top-down shooter set in a steampunk Victorian era England. The game was developed by The Bitmap Brothers and published by Renegade Software in 1993 for the Amiga, both ECS and AGA. It was later ported to Atari ST, SNES, Sega Mega Drive, DOS and other platforms. It the US it was renamed Soldiers of Fortune.

In the game you can choose 2 of the 6 available mercenaries, one will be controlled by you and the other one by the computer (or by the other players, in case of 2 players mode). You will have to explore the levels, fight the enemies, find keys and power-ups until you finally defeat the Baron Fortesque and the Chaos Engine itself.

The plot and settings were inspired by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling's novel, The Difference Engine. GamesNostalgia offers you the Amiga AGA version.
