THIS PACKAGE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO USE, RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PACKAGE IS ASSUMED BY YOU AND IF THE PACKAGE SHOULD PROVE TO BE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR OTHER REMEDIATION. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, CAN THE AUTHOR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED IN ANY USUAL, SPECIAL, OR ACCIDENTAL WAY, ALSO IF THE OWNER OR A THIRD PARTY HAS BEEN POINTED AT SUCH POSSIBILITIES OF DAMAGE. This install applies to "Alien Breed" © 1991 Team 17. This install requires WHDLoad and DIC to be in the path. Both can be found in the WHDLoad package. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed program requires 0.5 MB ChipMem and 0.5 MB OtherMem. It can be quit by pressing 'F10' (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page. If that doesn't help try some Tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, NOVBRMOVE, NOMMU, PAL or NTSC. If that also fails, please inform the author via the Bug-Report-Form which can be accessed on the WHDLoad WWW-Page. For the full WHDLoad package, other installs and updates refer to: http://www.whdload.de/ or aminet:dev/misc/whdload#? and aminet:game/patch/ version 2.3a (25.07.2018) done by StingRay: - music wasn't replayed properly in main menu (wrong interrupt fix) - CUSTOM3 can now be used to run the "Not Enough Memory" part, thanks to Bored Seal for the idea :) - info how to quit to DOS using CD32 pad in readme added version 2.3 (24.07.2018) done by StingRay: - patch redone - high-score load/save (saving disabled if trainer options are used) - new install script (Mantis issue #3901) - default quitkey changed to F10 - Bplcon0 color bit fixes - long write to $dff100 fixed - quitkey works everywhere in game now - reset (GURU TIME cheat) patched to quit back to DOS - "efford" typo fixed - interrupts fixed - self-modifying code fixed version 2.2 (18.05.2018) done by JOTD: - added 2nd player joypad controls - enabled the use of fast memory again - added BUTTONWAIT to be able to read mission text (end with joystick/lmb) - repaired the pause button on joypad (sorry!) version 2.1 (13.05.2018) done by JOTD: - bugfix for pause key - updated 2.0 feature list & added fun release notes from the authors - added switch (CUSTOM2) to enable original cheat keys version 2.0 (09.05.2018) done by JOTD: - adapted to WHDLoad v17 dynamic options splash screen - trainer now includes infinite credits so you can buy all equipment at once - added quitkey for 68000 machines - added CD32 controls for pause & weapon switch (issue #0002940) version 1.3 (01.03.2006) done by JOTD: - fixed second button handling (intex terminal access) - install script rewritten - icons added - manual, solution, and cheats added version 1.2 (22.01.2004) done by JOTD: - removed intex terminal access by fire button (was annoying) - either RMB or second fire button (blue CD³² button) activates intex - source code included version 1.1 (01.06.2003) done by JOTD: - reworked to work with 512k chip and fastmem - keyboard fixed - joystick second button activates intex terminal - Mr Larmer trainer activated by setting CUSTOM1=1: infinite energy, keys, etc... - source reworked version 1.0 (21.03.2001) done by Mr.Larmer: - disk protection removed - two access faults removed comment from Mr Larmer on the protection: - when I first time seen game code, i thought this is unpatchable. about 950 decode loops which have 20kb, but for what I have brain ;) comment from StingRay on the protection: - well, Mr. Antiaction tried hard but in the end: yet another useless protection! :) Keys/joypad buttons: - Space/second/blue button: enter Intex Computer System - M/yellow button: holo-map - Alt keys/green button: weapon selection - P/play button: pause - ESC/fwd+reverse buttons: quit current game - Fwd/revers+play buttons: quit to DOS NOTES V2.3 (StingRay): ---------------------- I actually only wanted to fix the broken install script (see Mantis #3901) but when I checked the patch code I found it rather unmaintainable and ended up recoding the patch from scratch. The decryption is now done MUCH cleaner than in the previous versions, my decryption code works with all caches and JIT enabled (WinUAE)! It was fun to code the decrypter and not exactly hard, the complete protection is one of those "not that bad but not exactly hard to defeat if you know what you are doing" kind of things, the trace vector decoder in the main game wasn't anything special at all either. I have added a lot trainer options, if in-game keys are enabled, the following extra keys can be used: E - refresh energy L - refresh lives K - get max. keys H - get hand map W - get all weapons A - refresh ammo N - skip level I actually tried to add a help screen which displays the in-game keys if help has been pressed but as I couldn't find free space for the screen memory I dropped it. Might try to add it again in a later version of the patch. Please also note that high-score saving is disabled if any trainers are used. "release notes" (found somewhere I don't remember where): StingRay: these notes are found in the decrypted executable of the main game code. ZALIEN BREED V1.3, =SB= 14-Oct-91 Main program code by Andreas Tadic and Peter Tuleby, Graphics and game design by Rico Holmes, music and sound effects by Allister Brimble, additional programming, bug fixing, copyprotection, data compression routines and algorithms, and fastmem sample players by Stefan Boberg == "Funny facts" about this game... 1) Source code is unreadable and extremely sensitive to changes (banana-code at the highest level). 2) My first protection had to be removed due to the fact that those f***ing duplicators couldn't copy it reliably , so this is really not the protection I wanted to put in (this one was threwn together in great haste in two days, completely from scratch) . For a REAL protection, look forward to PROJECT X from Team 17 software, released Jan-92.. It will be tough! 3) A dozen or so MAJOR bugs were fixed within three days.. we worked 72 hours without sleep! I worked even longer after that... I hate the sight of this bloody game, sure hope it'll sell well, so I can get some serious cash and buy some goodies for me... like a Fusion Forty for my little A3000 4) The game's gotten rave reviews in all major mags, YAHOO! (six-page review in ACE, three pages in CU AMIGA etc..) Good job we payed them all that money! (not really...:) 5) After this sentence is finished, this game is 100% finished , and you cannot possibly imagine how bloody RELIEVED I am.... phew... Over and out... bibi >w FILENAME> abfinal.s >! Exit, are you sure? Y bzzzt.... EOT
