This install applies to "American Gladiators" © 1992 GameTek. Requirements: ------------- This install requires WHDLoad and RawDIC to be in the path. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed game requires 0.5 MB ChipMem (+1.7 MB OtherMem for preload). It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). Features: --------- - Full load from HD (real files!) - Blitter waits added (x8) - DMA wait in replayer and sample players fixed (x21) - Access faults fixed (x3) - Game freezing problems fixed - Bug in joystick handling fixed (crash in Joust event) - Interrupts fixed - Intro can skipped with CUSTOM1 - Timing fixed (Joust event), fix can be disabled with CUSTOM2 - NewIcon (created by me) - Source code included as usual - Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10') Another very old patch that needed an update as the old one didn't really work properly. Saw a bug report for this one on the Mantis tracker some days ago, a lot of people mentioned problems with the game freezing. Bored Seal tried to fix this in the old patch but he didn't find the real reason for these problems so he gave up. The problems weren't caused by self-modifying code as he thought (there's no SMC in the game, none that is called anyway!), these were actually interrupt related problems caused by the simple fact that there weren't proper system-restore routines used after a part was loaded and executed. This in turn led to wrong interrupt code behing executed which froze the game! I have fixed these problems and coded proper system-restore routines so the game should never freeze anymore! I have also fixed the timing in the "Joust" event as it was unplayable on fast machines, the timing fix can be disabled with CUSTOM2. This event might also crash if you quickly move the joystick, after spending several hours trying to find the reason for this without any success I decided to release the patch like this. This problem also occurs in the disk version on an A500! Update, 28-Jul-2016: -------------------- I've found the reason for the crash in the Joust event now, it was caused by a major bug in the joystick handling code! The jump table used doesn't handle all combinations correctly, if fire and more than one direction at once are used the game would crash! This has now been fixed. The patch now uses real files so you will have to re-install the game! Enjoy the game from HD.
