Short : HD Installer for Captain Dynamo Version: 1.4 Author : Bored Seal, StingRay, DJ Mike Type : game/patch Requires: WHDLoad 19, 512k chip mem This patch applies to "Captain Dynamo" by Code Masters (c) 1992 Two versions are supported: - v1 release, disk label "DYNAMO MASTER 17.7.92" (SPS #1722) (supplied by Mark Knibbs) - v2 release, disk label "DYNAMO MASTER 2.11.92" (SPS #995) (supplied by Helmut Motzkau) REQUIREMENTS - Original disk or compatible disk image (Cracks have not been tested and are not supported) - Slave requires WHDLoad 19+ - Game requires 512k chip memory (+ approx 265k other memory for preload option) FEATURES: - Game loads fully from HD - Quit game at any time (default key F10), including on 68000 machines - Rob Northen Copylock disk protection removed - Imploder decruncher moved to Fast RAM - Self-modifying code fixed (version 1) - Blitter waits added - Title credits can be skipped with fire button - Highscores stored to HD - Trainers added - set CUSTOM1 with any of the following: + 1 for infinite lives + 2 for invincibility + 4 to enable cheat keys (screen flashes blue for on, red for off): * L to toggle infinite lives * I to toggle invincibility * + to advance to next level * - to go back to previous level - Icons by JHZ/Midwik and DJ Mike - Manual included - Source code included HISTORY: Version 1.4 (2026-01-22) by DJ Mike: - Memory reduced to 512k (game only used extra memory for file caching) - Highscores stored to HD - Quit key works during opening credits - Trainers added - New icon made - Manual included Version 1.3 (2018-04-10) by StingRay: - access fault in later levels fixed, ext. mem size increased to 512k - interrupts fixed - keyboard routine fixed - 68000 quitkey support - 3 blitter waits added (V2 of the game) - In-Game cheat can be enabled by pressing "C" Version 1.2 (2007-06-24) by Bored Seal: - memory usage reduced, fast mem usage, blitter waits added - SMC decryption routine patched, you can skip title credits with fire Version 1.1 (1999-08-28) by Bored Seal: - version 2 supported (thanks Helmut), added version check Version 1.0 (1999-06-04) by Bored Seal: - first public release NOTES V1.4 (DJ Mike) -------------------- This patch has a bit of a chequered history when it comes to memory usage. However, like other games by Derek Leigh-Gilchrist (e.g. Magicland Dizzy, Prince of the Yolkfolk), there is actually no need for extra memory as it is only used to cache disk files (which WHDLoad already does). I have therefore removed it altogether, so the game only needs 512k chip memory now. Highscore saving is now also implemented, and I took the opportunity to add some extra trainers and a new icon. Enjoy! :-) --- DJ Mike (22nd January 2026) NOTES V1.3 (StingRay) --------------------- I saw a note about problems with this patch in the Amiga group on facebook. Quickly checked the patched and there indeed was an access fault after some levels had been played, this was caused by too less extended memory set in the slave. I have fixed this problem, fixed all interrupts and also added 68000 quitkey support. Additionally I added the possibility to enable the built-in cheat by pressing "C". You will have unlimited lives and can choose levels with keys +/-. I have also started to add high-score load/save but it requires a bit more work which I'm currently not willing to spend.
