THIS PACKAGE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO USE, RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PACKAGE IS ASSUMED BY YOU AND IF THE PACKAGE SHOULD PROVE TO BE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR OTHER REMEDIATION. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, CAN THE AUTHOR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED IN ANY USUAL, SPECIAL, OR ACCIDENTAL WAY, ALSO IF THE OWNER OR A THIRD PARTY HAS BEEN POINTED AT SUCH POSSIBILITIES OF DAMAGE. This install applies to "Fire And Ice" © 1990-1994 Graftgold This install requires WHDLoad to be in the path. It can be found in the WHDLoad package. Floppy version: The installed program requires 1.0 MB ChipMem and 0.5 MB OtherMem. There's a version which only requires 512kb ChipMem and 24-bit othermem (game doesn't like 32-bit memory at all) It can be quit by pressing num '*' (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). CD³² version: The installed program requires 2.0 MB ChipMem and 1.0 MB OtherMem. It can be quit by pressing num '*' (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). The game requires an installed A1200 or A4000 Kickstart 3.1 image. The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and must be named "kick40068.A1200" (resp kick40068.A4000). The image can be extracted from a A1200 (resp A4000) with tools like 'GrabKick' or similar which can be found on aminet. If the image is of wrong version or altered in any way WHDLoad will quit with an appropriate requester. Additionally the file "kick40068.A1200.RTB" (resp "kick40068.A4000.RTB") must be installed in the same directory as the kickstart image. It can be found in the archive "util/boot/skick346.lha" on aminet. If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page. If that doesn't help try some Tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, NOVBRMOVE, NOMMU, PAL or NTSC. If that also fails, please inform the author via the Bug-Report-Form which can be accessed on the WHDLoad WWW-Page or create a mantis issue directly at http://mantis.whdload.de For the full WHDLoad package, other installs and updates refer to: http://www.whdload.de/ or aminet:dev/misc/whdload#? and aminet:game/patch/ version 3.4 (09.09.2020): - fixed crash at startup on some configurations for v1.05 (ECS) - bumped AGA slave version to 3.4 (but nothing changed) version 3.3 (17.05.2020): - ECS: fixed spurious fire when pressing second button for jumping version 3.2 (16.05.2020) done by JOTD: - ECS: fixed crash when saving high-score (issue #0004611) - CD32: fixed non-working 2-button joystick (issue #0004539) - ECS: added delay on "Cool Coyote" screen (skip with fire button) - ECS: fixed disrepancy between install script and ECS slave (expecting diskimages to be in "data" directory) install script has been fixed to create diskimages in "data" now (issue #0004649) - packaged source code cleanup (removed old JST emulation sources) version 3.1 (22.04.2020): - CD32 version: maps enabled by default again (issue #0004540) - CD32 version: fastmem enabled again (sorry!) - CD32 version: TODO: 2button joy doesn't work! - floppy version: TODO: BUTTONWAIT for intro screens - floppy version: TODO: custom2 select more options version 3.0 (19.04.2020) done by JOTD: - floppy slave completely rewritten, adapted to whdload v17 - floppy version: fixed possibly wrong intro music (missing audio dma delays) - trainer: infinite lives (fixed issue #003981) - trainer/easy setup: quit world with incomplete key when door is found - allows to start all 7 levels (not only the 4 first ones) in trainer mode - CD32 joypad support for floppy version (play: pause, reverse when paused: quit) - CD32 version: fixed CD32 controller issues (#0004088 and #0004127). (Extra buttons beside red button didn't work beside other bad stuff with 1B A1200 motherboards) - CD32 version starts with "on chip" music like floppy version as CD music is obviously unavailable - CD32 version can quit to workbench with reverse+forward+play - CD32 version second button jump & higher level trainers directly activable from splash screen - CD32 version fixed random/rare access fault write at $CCCCCCCC by clearing memory at startup (code will write at 0, I don't think it will be an issue for the game) - CD32 version hiscore saves done to "nvram" file (using new nonvolatile emulation by Wepl) version 2.2 (05.03.2009) - music fixed - caches re-enabled - source code cleanup & working with latest kickcd32 version 2.1 (2007) - CD³² version install fixed, no longer requires lowlevel.library, keyboard now works 100%, so does joypad & joystick emulation. - You can select J-8 controller (joypad) if you use a 2-button joystick so 2nd button works as the blue button (jump) - Joypad emulation keys: * P: pause the game * ESC: quit the game while in pause * SPACE: special weapon - reworked readme file (I think this is the final release of the slave!) version 2.0 - CD³² version uses lowlevel.library & kick31 emulation, removed OSEmu stuff (there are 2 versions of the slave, one needing lowlevel and the other not, but with buggy keyboard & joystick controls) - source code included (including the CD³² emulation stuff) - icons added (by Frank) - document file added version 1.2+ (xx.06.2001) done by JOTD - better/faster RawDIC slave (disk format was actually DOS with modified track header) version 1.2 (xx.05.2001) done by JOTD/Harry - first WHDLoad version - CD³² version support by Harry. Hiscore & settings are saved to "FireNIce.nvd" dir - 2 floppy versions supported - RawDIC slave adapted from Ralf diskrip program version 1.1 (xx.11.2000) done by JOTD - access fault removed version 1.0 (xx.09.1998) done by Ralf (Kaervek) & JOTD - JST release, 1 version supported (Ralf) - RNC disk protection removed (JOTD) - codewheel protection removed (Ralf) - set CUSTOM5=1 tooltype for infinite lives CREDITS: - Floppy version: JOTD: copylock decryption Ralf: rest of the JST install for v1.00 JOTD: WHDLoad install, access fault fix and snoop bugs fixes JOTD: adaptation to v1.05 JOTD: written a RawDIC slave - CD³² version: Harry: work on OSEmu JOTD: work on OSEmu, CD³² specific parts (lowlevel.library, etc...) Harry: work on OSEmu, nonvolatile library, first install version, using OSEmu. JOTD: rewritten from scratch for kickemu 3.1, uses on-disk lowlevel.library now. NTSC tooltype runs the NTSC version. JOTD: reworked install script and merged with floppy version install JOTD: completely reworked lowlevel emulation: fixed keyboard & joypad issues now the game works perfect. Notes from original Ralf JST installer: One of the best jump and run games ever - on any platform. Patched to run from your harddisk in one day. One of Andrew Braybrook's greatest games - runs now on the A1200 HD. Have fun! Seeing the code, it's a miracle that we could patch it. Andrew Braybrook code is very compact and obfuscated, with register-relative accesses, bit fields, weird optimizations... It's the main reason why I didn't add levelskip but only a "exit-when-you-want" option. Many thanks to Carlo Pirri for sending me the original from Australia! The game has been sucessfully tested with an Amiga1200 030/50Mhz/18MB with a Blizzard 1230/IV and an Amiga 1200 030/28Mhz/12MB, and with a A1200 060/50MHz/64MB with a Blizzard 1260/IV.
