THIS PACKAGE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO USE, RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PACKAGE IS ASSUMED BY YOU AND IF THE PACKAGE SHOULD PROVE TO BE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR OTHER REMEDIATION. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, CAN THE AUTHOR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED IN ANY USUAL, SPECIAL, OR ACCIDENTAL WAY, ALSO IF THE OWNER OR A THIRD PARTY HAS BEEN POINTED AT SUCH POSSIBILITIES OF DAMAGE. This install applies to "Jonathan" © 1993 Software 2000. Requirements: ------------- This install requires WHDLoad to be in the path. These programs can be found in the WHDLoad package. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed program requires 1.0 MB ChipMem and 0.5 MB OtherMem. It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). The game requires an installed A500 Kickstart 1.3 image. The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and must be named "kick34005.A500". The image can be extracted from a A500 with tools like 'GrabKick' or similar which can be found on aminet. If the image is of wrong version or altered in any way WHDLoad will quit with an appropriate message. Additionally the file "kick34005.A500.RTB" must be installed in the same directory as the kickstart image. It can be found in the archive "util/boot/skick346.lha" on aminet. Features: --------- - Protection correctly removed (note: if you have the Interpol crack don't waste your time trying to complete the game, it is impossible) - Saves during gameplay reduced to an absolute minimum (see below) - Option to always win the end fight (CUSTOM1=1) - Option to restart game after the game over screen (CUSTOM2=1) - Documentation and solution included - 2 NewIcons, RomIcon and OS3.5 color icon (all created by Irek'72) - Source code included as usual - Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10') Some notes: ----------- The game originally saved lots of files to a temporary location. This meant that the game would have insane loading times using the WHDLoad patch because of the required OS swaps etc. I changed that so the game won't ever save temporary files anymore! Furthermore, I had to patch one xpk unpacking routine because the xpk.library always returned an error which meant the game could not be played. I have tested this patch thoroughly and didn't experience any problems, I could successfully complete the game! If you see a screen showing some woman on the left and some text on the right it means you did something wrong, i.e. it's the game over screen. After this screen the game quits back to DOS, you can disable this behaviour with the CUSTOM2 tooltype, if enabled the game will restart after the game over screen. If you can't figure out how to win the final fight you can use the "CUSTOM1=1" feature, it allows you to complete the game even if you didn't use the correct magic spells etc. I have also included required information that is needed to complete the game such as telephone numbers, information about the magic spells etc, see file "JONDOC". I did type it back in 1993 from my original manual. Yes, the dodgy Interpol crack made me buy the original! :) Update 18.04.2013: ------------------ I have updated one of my very first WHDLoad patches, it now uses WHDLoad v17+ features and it finally fixes the problem with the black screen after the game over screen was shown. The game tried to delete the files it originally saved to a temporary location, since I have patched the game to not save temporary files anylonger this was not needed anymore and caused a disk request (which was just not visible due to the black screen) which in turn meant that the game would not quit back to DOS until the quitkey had been pressed. This annoyed me ever since I made the patch almost 5 years ago and it is now finally fixed. I have also added an option the restart the game after the game over screen as I find it quite annoying that the game quits to DOS after this screen. Now also lots of nice icons are included, these have all been created by Irek'72, thanks a lot! Greetings and thanks: --------------------- Retro-Nerd for requesting and testing this install, Toni Wilen for WinUAE, Belgarath for supplying the solution, Wepl for WHDLoad, Wayne Kerr, Mr.Spiv, Blackhawk, Galahad and everyone else who wants to be greeted. :) Special thanks to Irek for the nice icons! History: -------- version 1.1 (18.04.2013) done by StingRay - source reworked, uses WHDLoad v17+ features now - disk request after game over screen removed, game quits cleanly now - option to restart the game after game over screen added - lots of nice icons by Irek'72 included version 1.0.1 (05.09.07) done by Wepl: - missing icons in install package added version 1.0 (02.08.07) done by StingRay: - initial release - source code included Contact: -------- If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page.
