This install applies to "LINKS - The Challenge of Golf © 1992 Access. Requirements: ------------- This install requires WHDLoad to be in the path. This program can be found in the WHDLoad package. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed game requires 0.5 MB ChipMem and 1.0 MB OtherMem(+3.1 MB for preload) It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). The game requires an installed A500 Kickstart 1.3 image. The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and must be named "kick34005.A500". The image can be extracted from a A500 with tools like 'GrabKick' or similar which can be found on aminet. If the image is of wrong version or altered in any way WHDLoad will quit with an appropriate message. Additionally the file "kick34005.A500.RTB" must be installed in the same directory as the kickstart image. It can be found in the archive "util/boot/skick346.lha" on aminet. Features: --------- - Full load from HD - 2 versions supported (v1.50 and v1.53) - Course selection bug fixed, now all courses are displayed (see below) - Bountiful and Firestone course disks supported - Cache stuff disabled - Intro can be skipped with CUSTOM1 - Manual included - NewIcon (created by me) - Source code included as usual - Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10') Here's the patch for one of the most resource hungry golf games on the Amiga ever. Game has been coded in assembly but the code could have been a lot faster, it's not very optimised. Update 28-Apr-2013 ------------------ Today I added support for the course disks, what I thought would be a quick update of the install script turned out to be a bugfixing session because the course disk support apparently was never tested with more than one course. The game destroyed the FIB (FileInfoBlock) while trying to read the course name so only 1 course would be displayed in the course selection screen. Pretty lame bug in my opinion which is now fixed, all courses are now displayed and can be selected! Supported are the Firestone and Bountiful course disks, as far as I know there are no other course disks available. You can install them using the install package. In case you have a different course disk just copy the course (any file with .crs extension) to the course directory and the game will use it. There also is a so called "v2.0" version of the game, it's the Kixx XL budget release and a horribly hacked 1.53 version (file names changed in a more than pathetic way to make the game run from disk), I will NOT support this, please use the original v1.53 version. That about wraps it up, enjoy the game! Sting, 28-Apr-2013 Greetings to all in Scarab and Scoopex, the WHDLoad team, PMC, Musashi5150, Skan, Slummy, Loaderror, Frequent, Wayne Kerr, Mr.Spiv, CFou!, Paradroid and all the other usual suspects. :) Special greetings to all Golf MK1 fans worldwide except those lowlifes who "borrowed" my MK1 for a joyride! Extra greetings to the usual suspects on #amigascne, see you all at Revision 2014! :) History: -------- version 1.01 (28.04.2013) done by StingRay: - support for Bountiful and Firestone course disks added - course selection bug fixed - NewIcon added - note about hacked "2.0" Kixx XL release added version 1.00 (13.04.2013) done by StingRay: - initial release - supports v1.50 (SPS 2010) and v1.53 (SPS 2481) - source code included Contact: -------- If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page. If that doesn't help try some Tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, EXPCHIP, NOMMU, PAL or NTSC. If that also fails, please inform the author via the Bug-Report-Form which can be accessed on the WHDLoad WWW-Page. For the full WHDLoad package, other installs and updates refer to: http://www.whdload.de/ or aminet:dev/misc/whdload#? and aminet:game/patch/
