README

Short: HD-Installer for Overlander V1.0 Author: Codetapper/Action (codetapper@hotmail.com), ICQ: 26051687 Uploader: Codetapper/Action (codetapper@hotmail.com) Version: 1.0 Type: game/patch This patch applies to "Overlander" (c) 1989 Elite - 1 disk. Supported versions: - Original release/Finale compilation (Tony Aksnes) - Trilogy cracked and trained version - ACU cracked and trained version REQUIREMENTS: - Slave requires WHDLoad V10+ and RawDIC - Game requires 512k chip mem (+820k other memory for preload option) FEATURES: - Full load from HD - 3 versions supported - Stack frame format bugs fixed (x3) - Loads and saves high scores (unless you cheat) - Trainer added - press Help to toggle infinite lives and fuel - press Del to skip the current level - Set CUSTOM1=1 to enable infinite lives and fuel - Set CUSTOM2=1-5 to start on the relevant level - Snoop bugs fixed (x2) - RomIcon, NewIcon and OS3.5 Colour Icons (created by Captain^HIT!) and 2 Exoticons (taken from http://exotica.fix.no) - Quit option (default key is 'F10') This install was quite difficult due to the stack frame bugs! There is a lot of awful code to interface from Atari ST operating system calls back to the Amiga using traps and this crashed on anything other than a 68000! Because this game is quite rare I have supported both the Trilogy crack and the ACU crack. The Trilogy version takes a few seconds to decrunch so please be patient. The ACU crack has one of the most stupid loaders I have seen - loading sectors until it finds "nogo" somewhere in the data. If you skip a level or use the cheat mode your scores will not be saved. To reset the high score table just delete the file Overlander.highs The original release is the only version which contains an extra anti piracy screen at the front. And now for some background information from Richard Underhill: ----- Overlander was coded by Darren Pegg on the Amiga and Atari ST. He was an employee of Elite, who liked to trade under the name of P.M.S. Systems (he got into trouble over that!) The road drawing technique and object manipulation were designed by myself and Mark Haigh-Hutchinson (now at Retro on the Metroid team in Austin Texas) but Darren seemed to forget the concept of hills going down as well as up - so I wasn't that honoured with the credit! I wrote the C64 version and Mark Haigh-Hutchinson wrote the Spectrum and Amstrad versions - neither of which were particularly spectacular. ----- Greetings to Tony, Captain^HIT for the icons, Wepl for WHDLoad, DJ Mike (for almost finishing this install!), Richard Underhill for the trivia, all Action members and the entire WHDLoad team!
