THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO USE, RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PACKAGE IS ASSUMED BY YOU AND IF THE PACKAGE SHOULD PROVE TO BE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR OTHER REMEDIATION. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, CAN THE AUTHOR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED IN ANY USUAL, SPECIAL, OR ACCIDENTAL WAY, ALSO IF THE OWNER OR A THIRD PARTY HAS BEEN POINTED AT SUCH POSSIBILITIES OF DAMAGE. This install applies to "X-Out" © 1990 Rainbow Arts. Requirements: ------------- This install requires WHDLoad, DIC and RawDOC to be in the path. These programs can be found in the WHDLoad package. To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert. The installed game requires 0.6 MB ChipMem (+1.6 MB for preload) It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey="). Features: --------- - Full load from HD - Protection removed (MFM) - Start level can be selected with CUSTOM2 - Trainers added (CUSTOM3, see below) - High scores are loaded and saved (only if no trainers are used) - CPU dependent delay loops fixed (x4) - Decruncher relocated to fast memory (Budget version) - Blitter waits added (x224, skipped on 68000) - Intro can be skipped with CUSTOM1 - Blitter waits can be forced even on 68000 machines with CUSTOM4 - 2 versions supported (original (SPS 412) and bugdet (SPS 1274) release) - 3 NewIcons and 2 OS 3.5 color icons (created by Frank and Exotica) - Source code included as usual - Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10') Here's yet another patch redone from scratch by yours truly. It was reported that the original patch has slow-down problems on 68000 machines due to the added blitter waits. Originally I only wanted to add an option to disable the blitter wait patches but I couldn't help it and went to town again. ;) Reason for this was that the old patch didn't have any trainers and high scores weren't saved either. It also used 2 different slaves for the original&budget version. Another reason is that I remember this game fondly and spent a lot of time playing it so many years ago now and think it deserves a proper patch. Patching the game was fun as I had to code some "semi-intelligent" routines for fixing the blitter waits and the trainer options as doing all that manually would have taken ages since each level had to be patched separately! Implementing the "Select Start Level" option provided some more fun because it wasn't that trivial either. Most of the time was spent playing the game though. :) Since the game is quite hard I have added some trainers which you can select with the CUSTOM3 tooltype (or just select them in WHDLoad's splash window). Available trainer options are: - Start with 500000 credits (CUSTOM3=1) - Unlimited Money (CUSTOM3=2) - Unlimited Energy (CUSTOM3=4) - No Background Collision (CUSTOM3=8) - Enable level Skip (Esc) (CUSTOM3=16) If you want to enable more than one option just add together the numbers for the options you want to enable, e.g. to enable unlimited energy and unlimited money you would have to use CUSTOM3=6 (4+2). If you enable the level skip option you can skip levels by pressing Escape. The "No Background Collision" option makes you invincible, if you don't enable it but have "Unlimited Energy" enabled your ship will still be destroyed if you hit one of the background objects! To select the starting level you can use the CUSTOM2 tooltype, valid numbers are 1-8 which will select the corresponding level. High scores are saved but only if you do not use any of the trainer options! And if you want to be clever and use the built-in money cheat thinking your score will be saved then I have some bad news for you. ;) The game did not wait for the blitter so I had to add a lot of blitter waits. These patches will only be enabled on machines with a CPU >68000, if you want to enable them on 68000 machines too you can use the CUSTOM4 tooltype. The 1 disk budget version is of course supported too, it is the same as the retail version except that all files have been crunched with PowerPacker so everything fits on 1 disk and it also loads and saves high scores (track 159). The disk also is in standard DOS format contrary to the original version which uses custom MFM protected disks. Additionally the Rainbow Arts intro was added, in this patch this is skipped as I couldn't be bothered to support it as it isn't anything special anyway. That about wraps it up, enjoy this nice shooter from HD. Sting, 24-Mar-2013 Greetings to all in Scarab and Scoopex, the WHDLoad team, PMC, Musashi5150, Skan, Slummy, Loaderror, Frequent, Wayne Kerr, Mr.Spiv, C-Fou! and all the other usual suspects. :) Special greetings to all Golf MK1 fans worldwide except those lowlifes who "borrowed" my MK1 for a joyride! Extra greetings to the usual suspects on #amigascne, see you all at Revision 2013! :) History: -------- version 1.2 (24.03.2013) done by StingRay: - redone from scratch - trainers added - intro can be skipped with CUSTOM1 - blitter wait patches are skipped on 68000 machines - 2 versions supported (SPS 412 & SPS 1274) - high score load/save - source code included versions 1.0 and 1.1 done by JOTD Contact: -------- If you have problems with this installation please try and get a newer version of this package from the WHDLoad WWW-Page. If that doesn't help try some Tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, EXPCHIP, NOMMU, PAL or NTSC.
