Cave Story MD is a fan-made remake for Genesis/Mega Drive of the famous platformer Cave Story. The game was created by Andrew DeRosier, and although it's not 100% complete, it is perfectly playable, and the main story is fully intact.
Cave Story (Dōkutsu Monogatari) is a renowned indie platformer created by Japanese developer Daisuke Amaya in 2004. The game was praised for its quality story, character design, and especially its meticulously crafted metroidvania-style gameplay. In addition to references to Castlevania and Metroid, Cave Story incorporates elements from Ninja Gaiden (aka Shadow Warriors), Mega Man, and The Legend of Zelda. Regarded as one of the most influential games of the 2000s, Cave Story has received numerous remakes and enhancements, including official releases like Cave Story+. Additionally, several fan games have been created. One of the latest fan games is the one developed by DeRosier—a fantastic conversion of the game for the Mega Drive. Essentially, it's a modern game with a nostalgic touch, brought to a console from the 90s.
In Cave Story, you control a robot that has lost its memory and must explore vast caves to uncover what has happened. Throughout the game, you'll solve puzzles to progress and eliminate enemies infesting the caves using your weapons, which can be upgraded by collecting power-ups released occasionally.
