Game Review

Zool 2 is a platform game developed by Gremlin Graphics and released for Amiga and Amiga CD32 in 1993. Serving as a sequel to the original Zool, this game continues the adventures of the titular ninja-like alien as he battles against enemies across various colorful and whimsical worlds.

In Zool 2, you control Zool or his female counterpart, Zooz, as they jump, run, and fight through a series of side-scrolling levels. The game features fast-paced gameplay with tight controls, allowing precise movements and quick reflexes. Zool is equipped with various attacks and power-ups, including the ability to shoot projectiles and perform spinning attacks, adding depth to the combat mechanics.

Zool was Amiga's answer to Sonic the Hedgehog, or at least this is how it was presented. Maybe it didn't become as popular as Sonic, but at least it was a game using the AGA chipset, with bright 256 colors backgrounds, excellent music, and fast gameplay. Enough to make A1200 owners happy. Zool 2 doesn't try to do anything different, which is a pity.

This doesn't mean it's a bad game. Zool 2 is nice. Each world in the game has its unique theme, ranging from candy-filled landscapes to futuristic environments. The graphics are colorful and detailed, with smooth animations and a distinctive art style that captures the game's energetic and cartoonish atmosphere. The sound effects are satisfying, from the sound of Zool's attacks to the various environmental sounds that immerse you in the game world.

Unfortunately, despite the many positive aspects, Zool 2 lacks originality and innovation compared to the first game and other platforming games in general. The addition of a second character is not enough. Anyway, if you liked the first chapter, you would appreciate the new levels and the new moves of Zooz. Overall, this enjoyable platformer delivers fast-paced action, colorful visuals, and AGA graphics. It may not have reached the same level of popularity as other platforming classics, but it still holds a place in the hearts of many Amiga gamers.
