Gobliiins is the first adventure puzzle game in the franchise of the same name and was developed by Coktel Vision. It was published by Sierra in 1991-1992 for DOS and Amiga. Of course, it later made its way onto other platforms and was released as an arcade throwback on the iPhone in 2010.
When the king is in trouble, who do you call? Goblins. Take control of a trio of Goblins who embark on a quest to find four magical items that will lead them to the dastardly wizard who has taken control of their king via voodoo doll. The trio must solve puzzles by collecting items and using them accordingly. Each Goblin has its talents that can aid in your adventure, and you can control each character individually. The little buggers have some sass to them and will mock you when you misuse items and become impatient when you’re idle for too long. The goblins have a community health bar which will deplete if you’re not careful. While the gameplay is linear, there are still plenty of things to keep you entertained while deciphering each level’s puzzles.
Gobliiins uses a straightforward point-and-click interface, making it easy for anyone to pick up. It mixes challenging puzzles with adventure and throws a little humor on the side. With no blood or gore to be seen, it’s a great game to play with your kids. Get them started on the classics and raise them right.
The series continues with Gobliins 2: The Prince Buffoon and Goblins 3.
