The Legend of Kyrandia is a fantasy adventure game developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Games in 1992 for Amiga and DOS.
This is the beginning of what would eventually become a trilogy made of this title plus The Legend of Kyrandia: Hand of Fate and The Legend of Kyrandia 3: Malcolm's Revenge. It is based on a text adventure game called Kyrandia: Fantasy World of Legends.
In this first game of the series you play as a would-be hero named Brandon. Brandon has just returned to his home to find that his grandfather, who is a wizard, has been turned to stone by an evil Jester. Brandon discovers that he is in fact the heir to the throne of Kyrandia and has been chosen to embark on a quest to stop the evil jester. Brandon must recover a magic stone that contains the life force of Kyrandia. Brandon, being the grandson of a wizard, will learn magical abilities in the course of his journey to bring down the jester. This point-and-click adventure game has one of the most simple interfaces. You simply have a ‘use’ option and that’s it, no other words to worry about. There are also several options when dealing with inventory management, including the ability to drop items.
Like any adventure game worth its salt The Legend of Kyrandia, features puzzles, some of which are rather difficult. The entire game itself is no walk in the park, but it is not so difficult that it’s unplayable. The game was incredibly well-received and won Best Adventure three times. An impressive feat when contending with studios like LucasArts and Sierra who released similar titles. This game is an adventure classic and a good addition to any gamer’s collection.
