The Karate Kid: Part II is a beat-em-up based on the popular movie of the '80s with Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. The game was created by Steve Bak and Pete Lyon and published by MicroDeal in 1987 for the Amiga and Atari ST.

When it was released in 1987, the game represented a big step forward compared to the existing beat-em-ups. Considering that International Karate was available only for the Commodore 64, Karate Kid was probably the best fighting game on the Amiga. With excellent visuals and perfect conversion of the movie images into computer graphics, MicroDeal's title amazed the players. It was one of those releases that convinced users to move from an 8-bit computer to an Amiga.

Premier Manager

Premier Manager

Premier Manager is a football/soccer management sim published by Gremlin Graphics. It was developed by Realms of Fantasy in 1992 for the Amiga and Atari ST. Later, it was ported to Acorn Archimedes and MS-DOS.

This is the first title of a long series, but only the first three were created by Gremlin. Since Premier Manager 97, the series has been published by Dinamic Software.

The game designed by John Atkinson and Alex Kewin is pure managerial. Up to 4 players can join the challenge. Each of them will be the new coach of a team of the Conference League (it's not possible to start directly in the Premier League). Setting the right formations, picking the players, buying and selling players, and arranging the coaching schedules, will be your main activity. If you can build a strong team, you will eventually take your club to the Premier League, and maybe you can win some titles. The financial aspect is fundamental because the club must have money to invest. You can manage the sponsorship and ticket sales or ask for loans.

Astro Marine Corps (or simply A.M.C.) is a horizontal scrolling shoot-em-up created by the Spanish studio Creepsoft/Dinamic Software. Released originally for the Amstrad CPC and other 8-bit platforms, in 1990 the title was ported to Amiga and other more powerful computers.

Besides the enhanced graphics, the 16-bit edition offers also some additional high-quality music. Unfortunately, in terms of gameplay, there are still several problems, in particular the way the hero moves and jumps. Anyway, if you like to kill hordes of Aliens, AMC offers a creative level design and a great variety of enemies.

Impossamole

Impossamole

Impossamole is a platform shooter created by Core Design and published by Gremlin Graphics in 1990. It was released for Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, PC Engine, and other platforms.

The title, designed by Alex Davis and Berni Hill, is the sixth chapter of the Monty Mole series, which started in 1984 with Wanted: Monty Mole. The series was supposed to end with Auf Wiedersehen Monty, but Core Designed decided to create at least one Monty game for 16-bit computers, and this is how Impossamole was born.

The title is similar to other Core Design entries, such as Rick Dangerous 2, but it doesn't reach the same quality. It's also too difficult to be enjoyable unless you are a hardcore platformer champion. But you might want to play it to listen to the fantastic intro tune composed by Barry Leitch.

Adventure Construction Set

Adventure Construction Set

Adventure Construction Set (ACS) is not a game but a game-maker tool created by Stuart Smith originally for the Commodore 64. Initially released in 1984, it was later ported to Apple II (1985), Amiga (1986), and MS-DOS (1987).

Despite the title, ACS does not produce graphic adventures; instead, you can build top-down, tile-based RPGs, like Ultima IV. It supports turn-based battles, melee and ranged attacks, spells, shops, and much more.

ACS was the best-selling Electronic Arts title in 1985 and influenced Bethesda when they created The Elder Scrolls Construction Kit. The construction set includes two games/tutorials: Rivers of Light and Galactic Agent (the latter only in the Amiga version of ACS).

The Speris Legacy

The Speris Legacy

The Speris Legacy is an action RPG created by Binary Emotions exclusively for the Amiga and published by Team17 in 1996.

Designed by Andy Jolly, and created by a team of only 6 people, the title is clearly inspired by the JRPG genre. Many reviewers found similarities with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Unfortunately, the comparison with these big productions didn't help the game getting good reviews. The Speris Legacy is what we could call today an "indie game," with a much smaller scope and fewer ambitions.

Nevertheless, this title represented a big gift for Amiga users in 1996 and one of the few titles using the AGA chipset properly. Speris Legacy offers interesting puzzles and a nice story, challenging battles (especially with the bosses), great music, and excellent 256-colors graphics. The Amiga is not famous for the JRPG genre, but this can be a great choice if you would like to try something different.
