Game Review

Enemy: Tempest Of Violence is a platformer action-adventure created by Anachronia for the Amiga and published originally in 1997.

The developer released an improved version, called the "easyplay version", in 2011, and declared the game freeware.

This title, designed and programmed by André Wüthrich, is inspired by classic 2D action adventures like Prince of Persia - you might also add Impossible Mission or Castlevania. But this is a much richer and complete game.

In 2029, human scientists are taken prisoners on three alien vessels orbiting around Mars. As a space marine, your task is to explore the vast starships, divided into 34 levels, and save the scientists. Each level will give you a certain amount of time to solve it.

The graphics are fantastic, the animations very detailed, almost "cinematic", sounds and music - that change dynamically depending on the scenes - create the perfect atmosphere. There are also several advanced features, such as enemies that can hear you and act accordingly, several actions to perform with objects, multiple weapons, and, last but not least, 2-players cooperative mode. What else can you ask?

Enemy: Tempest Of Violence is a game that could have been a massive success if released when the Amiga was at its peak. But if you are a retro games lover, you cannot miss it.

Game suffering from obvious programming problems! It starts from the options screen, if you choose to press the "F10" button to enter the configuration, the game crashes .... So let's avoid using that command and let's start the game ... bad news there too ... The character moves left and right with the arrow keys ... it would seem intuitive to think that to jump it is necessary to press the up arrow key, nothing to do, the jump must be done by pressing the space bar and together with the key up arrow !!! This command responds very slowly and, as if that weren't enough, it wanders for no reason through all the various levels without encountering the slightest opponent ... GROAN! And as yet another problem, if while we play, we press the right mouse button, we find ourselves again at the start of the game and all the progress made lost forever ... No ... no ... no ... The game on computer, in my opinion is quite another thing!
