SimCity Societies is a city-building simulation video game developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts in 2007 for Windows.
The game is part of the famous series of city-building sims started with SimCity. It was released four years after SimCity 4, and unlike the other episodes, it was not created by Maxis but instead by Tilted Mill Entertainment. Tilted Mill was the studio behind Caesar IV, so not exactly an unknown name, but the result was not exactly what fans expected. The original SimCity creator, Will Wright, considered the latest games to be too difficult, so SimCity Societies was heavily simplified. There was also an important change in terms of gameplay. Instead of the usual zones of influence, SimCity Societies introduces a new concept of energies, like creativity, authority, prosperity, and more. The problem is it's unclear how they worked, so players were a bit confused.
On the other side, Sim City Societies is indeed great in terms of visuals and graphics. Cities created with this game are really beautiful. Also, the UX and UI are probably the best seen in all the SimCity incarnations. This is probably why some people are still in love with this edition.
A lot of changes were introduced with Patch 5.
