Realms of Arkania: Star Trail is the second in the Das Schwarze Auge-inspired series Developed by Attic Entertainment Software. It was published by Fantasy Productions (FanPro) in German and Sir-Tech in English for DOS in 1994.
This sequel resembles the original Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny, combining first-person and isometric views set in mock 3D environments. It also features multiple options for combat and detailed character creation. Building your party of 6 from the ground up can take some time. You can choose their skills and tailor them for different jobs. Those who don’t quite have the hang of RPG character creation can have the computer generate your party for you.
In this new installment, the orcs are back at it again, and the elves and dwarves must band together to stop them. They must recover the Salamander Stone to cement their alliance. However, there is an unseen force attempting to thwart their efforts.
Star Trail expands upon its predecessor by adding many more side quests. There are also random events that require your attention as you are out exploring the world. Combat is dependent on strategy more so than other RPGs at the time. There are many factors to consider when deciding what character should move where and attack how.
Star Trail was voted the best RPG of 1994 and is considered by many the best game of the series. Though a game definitely not meant for the casual RPG player, those serious about the genre will love the detail and lore.
