Game Review

The Misadventures of Flink (or simply Flink) is a jump-and-run game created by Psygnosis and released in 1994 for the Amiga CD32, Sega Mega Drive, and SEGA CD.

The game, which was designed and illustrated by Henk Nieborg, was the inspiration for the follow-up/remake The Adventures of Lomax. If Lomax had the nice addition of the Lemmings characters, Flink has other interesting features. First of all, the spells' mechanics: your character will collect scrolls and ingredients during the game; once he has enough of them, he can combine ingredients to create new spells. Anyway, since he is still an apprentice, the result is not assured! Of course, the successful ones will become part of his book, and he will be able to use them later during the game.

Apart from the magic element, you have some nice platforming mechanics, and most importantly, some fantastic graphics. Not a surprise if you think that Henk Nieborg is the artist behind Lionheart. Flink is another piece of art (or "pixel-art," if you prefer). Seriously, have a look at the screenshots!

The Misadventures of Flink is often considered one of the best games ever created for the Amiga CD32. Okay, maybe they were not so many, but it's still a great title you have to try.
