Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World is the sequel to the original Might and Magic published by New World Computing in 1988 for the Apple II and DOS.

Due to its popularity, the game was ported to several other platforms in the following years, including Commodore 64, Macintosh, MSX, and Amiga, in 1990. There is also a SNES version released in 1993.

The Might and Magic series, created and designed by Jon and Michaela Van Caneghem, is one of the best-selling RPG series, selling more than 1 million copies by 1994.

After defeating the evil Sheltem in Might and Magic: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum, the intrepid heroes are sucked into a portal that sends them to another land. In this new world, the heroes must stop Sheltem once again. Borrowing from its predecessor, Gates to Another World uses a similar gameplay configuration with a few additions. As with the first one, you must create a party of 6 (or import characters from the first one to stay canonical). You can create more player characters and pick and choose between them at specific locations throughout the world. Gates to Another World also offers the possibility to hire additional computer-generated mercenaries. There are multiple races and classes to choose from and certain things that are only accessible using certain races and genders. This installment also features two additional classes and new learnable skills. Combat is turn-based and occurs at predetermined locations rather than entirely at random. Aside from fight you must also collect items and solve puzzles. The world is really huge, the gameplay is open, and you will have access to many side quests to complete. Try not to take too much time exploring as your characters will eventually age, affecting skills and dying.

Might and Magic II was well-received, much like the first one. It was the equivalent of Skyrim in 1988, and many players fell in love with the RPG genre thanks to this game.
